Breast Reduction

The ideal treatment for hypertrophic and heavy breasts

Big breasts are not always beautiful! It all depends on their shape and proportions in relation to your body, and when it comes to the breast, a specialised cosmetic surgeon can improve both through breast reduction, customised according to the needs of each woman. Breast reduction is an invasive method to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts, in order to form a smaller breast. The body type of each woman determines the level of breast reduction, and it is designed so as to achieve a natural result in proportion with your body.

Usually the surgery lasts about 3 hours and general anaesthesia is required. The size of the incision around the nipple is determined by breast size and shape. In addition, the site where the incision is made depends on skin elasticity and on the procedure that will be chosen for the surgery, as applicable.

During the procedure, excess accumulated fat is removed and then the nipple is repositioned higher. In certain cases, if the nipple is enlarged because of the increased breast size, its size may be reduced, so that to fit with the new smaller breasts. Following this, both volume and fat are removed from the breast gland and then the gland is supported at its new higher position. The surgery is completed with the closing of the incisions with absorbable sutures layered deep within the breast tissue to minimise any visible scars. IIn some cases, during the procedure it may be necessary to put small tubes to prevent hematoma formation. These tubes are removed after a couple of days, which is also the usual period the patient stays in the clinic.
